The project aims to refunction an old masonry Barn from the early 18 hundreds containing advanced for its time constructive elements, combining pre-tensioned steel and timber in the upper floor and roof constructions, accordingly.
On the West corner of the Barn, a new extension containing the Stair will be added. The exterior walls of the extension are planned to be made from timber construction elements with high thermal efficiency.
Among the many versions of the Layout on the second floor, the owner seemed to prefer this one. One of the obstacles in the project was to effectively reconstruct and update the thermal efficiency of the Barn, by preserving the existing windows and applying the thermal insulation on the inside.
The improved roof design is adding to the overall thermal design significantly and the project as a whole is giving high-efficiency results in PHPP and could potentially and eventually claim an entry-level efficiency, according to the Passivhaus standard, on a plausible estimated construction price.
The further planning and execution of the project were later suspended, because of unfortunate events related to the owner.
